"MOSCOW MASLENITSA" FESTIVAL, FEBRUARY 9 to 18

Fr om 9 to 18 of February, Moscow welcomes spring at the "Moscow Maslenitsa" festival. The streets and squares of the capital will be the place for traditional celebrations of farewell to winter. Guests of the festival will have a chance to participate in 226 culinary and more than 1000 creative master classes, music shows and theatrical performances, traditional Maslenitsa games and folk entertainments.
In the culinary school of Zelenograd, guests can practice cooking pancakes of various kinds according to recipes of different regions of Russia: with milk, ryazhenka, with pumpkin, buckwheat, cottage cheese and apples, Old Russian pancakes and Ryazan pancakes with meat. Yummy!
Every day New Arbat will be hosting carnival processions with mummers. Guests can participate in a Dutch or German carnival, or in a Russian masquerade of Elizabethan times.
Manezhnaya Square will turn into a large open stage, wh ere the immersive performance "Tsar Maslenitsa" will take place. This will be a bright musical performance with folk songs and dances, games and shows of buffoons. And spectators can become direct participants in the action.
As part of the "Golden Mask" project, performances of seven national theaters of Russia - those of Yakutia, Mari El, Chuvashia - will be held during the festival. Guests will see performances with a national flavor and will touch on legends and traditions of the peoples of our country. Performances can be seen every day of the festival at three venues: on Revolution Square, in Kamergersky Lane and on Profsoyuznaya Street, 41.
